This is our first ever blog post for our home in Bermuda Dunes–long story short my brother and I grew up going to the desert every year and always wanted to have our own spot to call home in this special place. We finally achieved that dream and when our extended family isn’t enjoying the pool and desert mountain views, we love to open our home to guests for them to enjoy all the wonders of the desert.
We’ve been able to host some guests this year and have extended some of our favorite recommendations when they come to stay–they seem to enjoy the recs so we thought it would be fun to share this with more people who are hoping to explore the Palm Springs area!
Here are 5 things to do in the desert that we think you’ll love. We do!
1. The Living Desert and Zoo Gardens
This is a zoo and wildlife center that caters to desert wildlife. This is a great activity for families, the zoo is a manageable size, with fun and interactive exhibits. You can feed a giraffe or have a rhino experience! The Zoo and Gardens have seasonal hours, so make sure you check out the website at livingdesert.org
2. Tahquitz Canyon Trail
Probably the best-kept secret in the desert! (we love this hike!) Located on part of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Reservation, it is home to a spectacular 60ft waterfall. The hike is a short 2 miles, with the waterfall in the middle. It’s great for families or couples looking to get outdoors, plus you’ll get some amazing pictures. Pack a lunch or snack and lounge on some rocks enjoying the view and sounds of the waterfall. Visit the website tahquitzcanyon.com for more information. We’ve even brought our 3-year-old niece on this hike and she did great.
3. Marvyn’s Magic Theater
This is an intimate theater for world-class magic and comedy. It’s a 75-minute performance with pre-show music and entertainment. This is a 21 and over club and make sure to purchase tickets in advance. Visit their website marvynsmagictheater.com
4. Sky Watcher Stargazing Tours
This is a guided tour where you can experience the wonders of the night sky, getting to gaze at the stars in the sky through a state-of-the-art telescope. The desert is the perfect backdrop for stargazing! This company has multiple locations and tours. This tour needs to be scheduled in advance so call 760-239-8240 or visit the website sky-watcher.com.
5. Palm Springs Air Museum
This is a living history museum with exhibits from WWII, the Korean and Vietnam wars, and the Global war on terror. You can even take a ride in an authentically restored WWII aircraft! It’s open 7 days a week from 10am-5pm. Call 760-778-6262 or visit the website palmspringsairmuseum.org for more information.
We hope you are excited to plan your next visit to the desert and when you do, we’d love to host you!
